Lifetime Achievement Award

The SIGecom Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes outstanding individuals who have made significant and long-lasting contributions to the field of economics and computation, influencing and setting direction for decades of research. The contributions may be theoretical or empirical advances or demonstrated applications at the interface of economics and computation. The award includes an invitation for the recipient to present a keynote talk at the ACM Economics and Computing Conference.

Eligibility. Awardees for the SIGecom Lifetime Achievement Award must have accrued:

  1. A sustained level of research contribution over time, with clear impact in economics and computation.
  2. Significant contributions to the community, specifically, sustained and seminal research contributions as well as other professional activities such as program committees, editorial boards and/or contribution to diversity and inclusion.

Nomination Procedure. Anyone in the economics and computing research community may nominate a candidate. To do so, please send nominations to sigecom-lifetimeaward@googlegroups.com by November 30, 2022 (Anywhere on Earth). Nominations should be for a single individual; groups of researchers and self-nominations will not be considered. In selecting the winner, the Committee pays particular attention to a sustained record of high-impact and seminal contributions to the interface of computing and economics. The nomination should include:

  1. Suggested citation if the candidate is selected. This should be a concise statement (maximum of 15 words) describing the key technical or professional accomplishment for which the candidate merits this distinction. Note that the final wording will be at the discretion of the committee.
  2. A statement explaining the candidate's most significant research accomplishments and contribution to the SIGecom community (limited to 1000 words).
  3. A list of at least 3 and at most 8 of the candidate's specific publications epitomizing the significance and lasting impact of those accomplishments, each accompanied by a short statement (limited to 100 words) and either a link to an online version of the publication or a copy of the publication itself.
  4. A list of two endorsers with personal knowledge of the candidate's work that the committee can contact for further information if deemed necessary.

Criteria for Selection. The winner is selected by a Prize Committee consisting of three people appointed by the SIGecom Chair; see below for the composition of the 2023 committee. Candidates will be evaluated based on their impact on the field of economics and computation. Each nominator will be notified of the committee's decision. If unsuccessful, the nominator will have the option to roll over (a possibly updated version of) the nomination for the following two selection cycles.
